There are 14 mountains in Snowdonia that are over 3000 feet (or 15 if you think Garnedd Uchaf is a proper 3000 foot mountain). Conveniently they are all close enough together to link into one memorable traverse. Join Ascents of Adventure on this magnificent mountain journey as we attempt to complete it within 24 hours. But be prepared, this is a far tougher challenge then the 3 Peaks Challenge. It is 26 miles long and has 12000 feet of ascent.
Starting early from Pen Y Pass we climb Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon), Crib y Ddysgl and the airy, exciting ridge of Crib Goch. A long descent towards Nant Peris brings the long climb up to Elidir Fawr. A roller coaster journey through the Glyders ticks off Y Garn, Glyder Fawr, Glyder Fach and the rocky Tryfan. Another long descent into the Ogwen Valley brings the last long climb up to Pen yr Ole Wen. Another glorious roller coaster walk includes Carnedd Dafydd, Carnedd Llywelyn, Yr Elen, Foel Grach and Foel Fras (Garnedd Ucaf is also walked over as luckily it is not far off the path between Foel Grach and Foel Gras). A final descent into Aber finishes off this memorable day out in the mountains.
I only take small groups on this challenge, 8 maximum. You should have previous hill walking experience and be confident and sure footed on Grade 1 exposed scrambles - there is no avoiding Crib Goch.
If you're thinking of having a go at this challenge don't leave it too late to decide - a number of long walks should be completed to prepare for this mountain adventure.
Packages for the Welsh 14 Peaks Challenge include transport to the start (from Betws y Coed or Capel Curig), all guiding, support at 2 road crossings where you will receive hot drinks and be able to pick up additional food and clothing if needed. At the finish you will be transported back to your vehicle or accommodation (Betws Y Coed or Capel Curig). You will need to find your own accommodation for the Friday night and be prepared for an early start - typically between 4-00 and 6-00am.
Ascents of Adventure will also help with transport to and from North Wales. We will pick up/drop off at Chester station, Bangor Station or any main road or motorway between the Lake District and North Wales. Please ask about this.
Please email me if you may be interested in attempting the Welsh 14 Peaks in 2013. Can't do any of these dates? Please contact me for availability on other weekends.
