Rock Climbing in Sardinia

When all is gloomy in the UK, how about joining Ascents of Adventure in Sardinia. This rock climbing holiday course is perfect for beginners and intermediate climbers. You may even be leading by the end of the week. You'll need a head for heights and a gutsy, go for it attitude! We are based in the small and quiet coastal resort of Cala Gonone. We may even get  a route or two done on the bolted sea cliffs around Alghero. Most of the crags are very close to where we stay, so driving time is limited. And after a hard morning or afternoon on the crag, the beach and ice cream shop are often only moments away. Single pitch and multi pitch routes will be climbed on these trips.

Dates for Autumn 2008

20th September - 27th September 2008          £525

25th October - 1st November 2008                 £525

There are up to 6 places available on each trip and the price of £525 includes all travel whilst on the island, accommodation (apartment-based B&B, shared rooms), 7 days of instruction and use of all specialised climbing equipment. You'll need to book your own flight to Alghero (Ryanair from London Stansted) and you must have relevant insurance, try www.snowcard.co.uk or www.thebmc.co.uk

Sardinia - 10th - 17th May 2008 - pictures on left

Charlie, Paul & Jade joined me in Sardinia for a fun filled week of sunny climbing. A truly international team (a Northener, Southener and Dubliner) prepared to go from Zero to Hero in 7 days. As we drove towards Cala Gonone on Saturday night, the rain started to fall. Luckily by Sunday morning the rain had stopped, the rock had dried and we managed to get 8 routes done ranging from French 4a to 5a-not bad for two of the team who had not even climbed on real rock before. Monday dawned grey skied and after 2 routes the heavens opened-apparently we were here during the coldest and rainiest spring in the entire islands history! The rest of the day was spent crawling up the walls and in cafes. Tuesday, and at least it wasn't raining, even if a bit grey and cloudy. A couple of routes at Poltrona and unbelievably the rain started again. Luckily the huge cave at Biddiriscottai stays dry and enabled a bit of swinging around on steep routes. Hooray, the rain had gone by Wednesday and visits to 2 more crags meant more climbing up to French 5b. Forecast for Thursday was good so plans were made to head up to the magnificent crag of Surtana for a multi pitch excursion. At last, the sun really shone, the sky was blue, and we climbed one of the 4 pitch trad routes. And what a place for 2 of the party to do their first abseil! A fabulous if somewhat tiring day was had by all. Friday saw the team leading routes-their first-up to French 5a. Saturday had come round all to quickly but a quick getaway back to Alghero meant there was still time to grab a 2 pitch bolted seacliff route in the glorious sunshine.
